Prostate cancer is known to not have any symptoms when it was still early stages, this condition causes about 70 percent of patients with prostate cancer was discovered after an advanced stage.
"About 70 percent of patients who come already an advanced stage and curative treatment can not be done anymore," said Dr. Rahmat Budi Santoso, SpB-U, in the event of extension of prostate cancer in SSR Dharmais, Jakarta, Tuesday (08/11/2011).
Dr. Santo said usually if you still really early there are no symptoms at all, but if the cancer has spread (metastatic) or locally advanced then the pain began to emerge.
"Metastatic usually to the spine and pain arise, pegel. But the extreme when spread to one of the fragile parts can cause paralysis of the lower leg," said the doctor was born 27 April 1970.
Other symptoms that appear when the cancer is metastatic prostate are anemia, fatigue, change in body weight with no known reason as well as swelling in the lower leg akibar blood flow back to the heart is disrupted.
For that early detection is important, because in principle every man can get prostate cancer. Examination for the prostate should be routinely done every year since the age of 50 years, but if the father's family line, there is a prostate cancer it is advisable since the age of 40 years because the risk is 2.4 times greater.
Tests carried out for the early detection of prostate cancer include digital rectal, ultrasound (ultrasonography) and PSA (prostate specific antigen). If the results of digital rectal and ultrasound suspicion and the results of high PSAnya or more than 4, then a biopsy is performed by taking samples from the prostate.
"But unfortunately here are not all covered by insurance, salaries too meager and there are many more important things, that's what makes early detection in Indonesia is still low," said Dr. Santo.
It required counseling and educating the public about the importance of early detection, because if cancer is found early dna can not spread the chances of survival for 5 years will be much greater.
